Hill: Little Conval

Company: Myself and Beinn
Time: 1Hr 30Mins
Dog friendly: Yes
Little Conval is located just outside Dufftown. It is a nice short walk on its own but could be combined with its neighbouring hills Meikle Conval (Sub2000 Marilyn) and/or Ben Rinnes (Corbett) for a longer day.
Little Conval from B9009:
I parked at the Dufftown Golf Course car park and walked along the B9009 to the start of the track towards Little Conval.
Meikle Conval from start of track:
Was surprised to still find snow at ground level.
Little Conval:
I followed the track past the sheepfold, through a gate and then through a field.
Meikle Conval from field:
If I had a map with me, I would likely have continued to follow the track as far as another track that zig-zags up the hill.
However, I didn't have a map and decided to take to the hillside about 0.5km before the zig-zag track.
I made my ascent up through some trees - nice and easy as the trees were well-spaced apart.
Ascent through trees:
After passing the trees, it was mainly through snow-covered heather to the summit.
Looking up Little Conval:
Beinn:
Above the trees (looking back):
Once above the trees you get great views of nearby Dufftown.
Dufftown (zoomed):
Beinn again:
Throughout the walk, Ben Rinnes was unfortunately capped in cloud.
Meikle Conval and Ben Rinnes (in cloud):
Looking across to Corriehabbie hill (zoomed):
Surrounding the summit there are the remains of an old fort.
Note - the trig point is 6m below the summit.
