Hills: Carn Liath, Braigh Coire Chruinn-bhalgain, Carn nan Gabhar
Date: 29th September 2007
Company: Myself, Bob, Elsie, Deirdre, Gregor, Michael

I set off from home, on 29th September 2007, to meet up with other members of the Turriff Mountaineering and Hillwalking Club who were attending a weekend meet based at nearby Pitlochry YH - I really dislike Youth Hostels, especially Pitlochry!

I borrowed my partner’s car for the day, something I’d regret later on .

I parked at the end of the road near Loch Moraig and set off walking with the others. This was to be my third ascent of Carn Liath and Braigh Coire Chruinn-bhalgain and my second ascent of Carn nan Gabhar. Previous ascents were in 1997.

We ascended Carn Liath via its highly visible, extensively eroded path.

After a stop at Carn Liath, to allow everyone to catch-up, we continued on our way to Braigh Coire Chruinn-bhalgain.

The group broke up into smaller groups during the long walk back. I walked out most of the way with Bob.

On driving away from Loch Moraig, on driving over a cattle grid, I heard a loud clatter followed by one helluva racket. On getting out of the car to look underneath as I suspected the whole exhaust from engine to tail-pipe had come off. I drove over one hundred miles home without an exhaust – I had a really sore head by the time I got home .
