Hills: Creach Bheinn, Fuar Bheinn and Beinn na Cille
Date: Friday 25th July 2008
Company: Myself and Alan
Time: 6 hrs 10mins

Myself and Alan met at the Corran ferry, just before 10.00am, in perfect timing to get on board just as the ferry was about to depart. Good start to the day. On disembarking the ferry, we drove round Ardgour and into Morvern where we parked at the small car park next to the bridge over the Glengalmadale river. The going was hot from the outset as we followed a land-rover track to just beyond a small dam.

Looking down Glengalmadale towards Creach Bheinn:

We continued to walk alongside the river Glengalmadale on intermittent sections of path.

Looking back along Glengalmadale:

On reaching the base of Creach Bheinn, we started the relentless ascent initially NNE next to the River and then NW up through numerous rocky outcrops.

View of Fuar Bheinn:

On reaching the rocky outcrops we could see a line of deer just above us.

Looking towards Maol Odhar:

The ascent was quite gruelling due to the heat. I managed to almost empty my Camelbak of 2 litres during the ascent of Creach Bheinn.

Looking back down Glengalmadale towards Lismore from Creach Bheinn:

Was glad to have a wee break at the large summit shelter of Creach Bheinn where we discovered a piece of aircraft wreckage. (Part of a McDonnell F-101C Voodoo that crashed in 1964.

Summit shelter:

From Cruach Bheinn we descended to Coire a Chuil Mhaim and then quite easily up grassy slopes to the summit of Fuar Bheinn.

Beinn na Cille and Lismore from summit of Fuar Bheinn:

We then descended circa 300m to the bealach between Fuar Bheinn and Beinn na Cille passing an unusual cairn en-route. (Unusual to find such a well-constructed cairn that isn't on a top and is off-route of the path)

Cairn on hillside near Meall a'Bhuiridh:

It wasn't long before we made the final ascent of the day to the summit of the Fiona Beinn na Cille.

Looking back from Beinn na Cille to Fuar Bheinn and Creach Bheinn:

From Beinn na Cille we returned to just before the bealach between Beinn na Cille and Fuar Bheinn. From there we descended with increasing difficulty down grassy slopes and then through rocky outcrops and tall ferns and grasses. Was great to reach the landrover track near the small dam in Glengalmadale and enjoyed the short walk back out to the car.

A great day in good company.
