Hill: Beinn na Seamraig
Date: Saturday 31st December 2011
Company: Just myself

On Saturday 31st December, I set off from home at 06:00, en-route to Plockton, to celebrate the New Year with the Moray Mountaineering Club.

The weather was reasonable from home as far as Glen Shiel. From Glen Shiel onwards the weather was pretty-awful.

Prior to heading for Plockton, I made my way across to Skye to ascend Beinn Na Seamraig – a 561m Marilyn.

My camera stayed in the bag for most of the walk as it was chucking it down – hence only three photos.

I parked at the cattle-grid a short-distance from the start of the track. I walked as far as the end of the track to a height of 400m, before taking to the hillside.

I first ascended the 546m top before continuing to the summit circa 1km beyond.

Summit of Beinn na Seamraig:

It was very windy and wet at the summit, so I didn’t hang around. I returned back to the car via the same route. I then drove round to Plockton.

After settling into the Station Bunkhouse, the festivities commenced with lots of food and lots of drink.

Before the bells, we all walked into the village of Plockton to see the fireworks and bonfire. A really impressive fireworks display for such a small village!

Bonfire set alight at midnight:
