Hill: Leagag
Date: Friday 3rd March 2023
Company: Myself and Ann-Marie
Distance: 8.3km, Ascent: 290m
Time: 2Hrs 20Mins

On Friday morning, Ann-Marie met up with myself near Aviemore from where we travelled to Bridge of Gaur, at the west end of Loch Rannoch, for an ascent of Leagag.

As well as being a Marilyn, Leagag is one of twelve new 'Grahams' having a height of between 600m and 610m. Leagag was my second closest-to-home unclimbed Marilyn. My closest-to-home unclimbed Marilyn, Burach, is also a new 'Graham'.

Route:

We initially parked on the verge next to the start of the track but were politely approached and told there is a small car park at the nearby hall. We therefore moved our vehicle to the hall car park before commencing the walk. If doing this hill, please use the hall car park.

Beyond the gate, we followed the good quality track featured in the next photograph.

Track from Bridge of Gaur towards Leagag:

It had been my intention to follow this track for approximately 0.5km further than we did. However, on seeing an ATV track heading-up the hill, we opted to take the ATV track heading directly towards Leagag.

Following an ATV track up the hill:

Beyond the ATV track we followed a deer track heading towards Leagag.

Ascending Leagag:

The views beyond Leagag were dominated by the hills north of Glen Lyon including the Munro, Meall Buidhe and the Corbett, Cam Chreag.

View towards Meall Buidhe:

As far as Marilyns go, Leagag is a nice one, providing good views down to Loch Rannoch.

Leagag NW Top:

We bypassed the NW Top of Leagag en-route to the summit and ascended the NW Top on our return.

Looking towards the summit of Leagag:

At the summit we stopped to take a few photographs before returning back to the car.

Descent from Leagag:

During the walk out I took a photo of what I thought was the remains of an old building. On checking the 1:25000 OS map, it is/was a sheepfold i.e. a sheep enclosure, not the remains of a building.

Sheepfold:

Great to get a hill done, albeit not a very big one as I am somewhat struggling currently with pain in both feet - a combination of hallux limitus and extensor tendinitis. The joys of getting old!
