Hill: Easington Fell
Date: Tuesday 4th March 2025
Company: Myself and Ann-Marie
Distance: 3.6km, Ascent: 52m
Time: 44 Mins
I am currently in Lancashire for a few days with a
view to visiting RSPB Leighton Moss and visiting Cumbria to ascend some more
Wainwrights. The MetOffice forecast at the time of booking the trip has
however turned-out to be a work of fiction with the actual weather worse
than originally forecast. With 60mph gusts, and -10C windchill, today in the
Lakes, we opted to spend the morning at RSPB Leighton Moss and in the
afternoon ascend a small Lancashire Marilyn, staying relatively low to avoid
the strong winds.
I opted for an ascent of Easington Fell. For our
ascent we started from the parking area at the high-point of the road
between Newton and Waddington.
Route:
We then walked a short distance back along the road towards Newton to
reach the start of the track leading to Easington Fell.
Start of
track leading to Easington Fell:
Having ascended a few Lancashire Marilyns previously, I expected the
walk to be seriously wet underfoot. On the contrary, the walk was a dry,
pleasant, easy stroll to the summit.
On reaching a small standing
stone (possibly an old boundary stone?) we took the track right fork which
leads towards the summit.
Track junction at small standing stone:
Looking towards the summit of Easington Fell:
On approaching the wall with stile, we did not use the stile instead
taking the track left fork which leads towards the summit.
Track
junction before stile:
On walking alongside the wall we came to the final track junction where
we took the left fork leading to the summit cairn.

After taking a few photos at the summit, we returned via the same route.
Windblown trees near the summit:
During the walk back to the car I noticed a small well.
